The Linden Tree: Drawing The
main part of the exercise is the drawing, which teaches observation and
translating those observations into representations on paper. Students
learn to understand the similarities and differences amongst each of
their classmates. Placement on the paper is also important, so the
exercise serves as an introduction to composition. All of this is
presented simply as drawing, so the lessons are absorbed naturally.
This method reflects the teaching philosophy at Linden Tree Art
classes: students learn by doing though exercises designed to introduce
or reinforce a number of elements, the combination of which moves each
student to a higher level of confidence and mastery.
